What a surprise!

Had I known people were visiting, I'd have cleaned up more. Sorry everything is such a mess, just have a seat here for now. Would you like anything? Water, coffee, beer? Ok, well then. Where shall we start?

San Francisco

This is my home. Although I grew up in Germany and lived in the deep and not-so-deep American South for most of a decade, I never felt among my people until I moved here. San Francisco is my city, precarious and aware of its faults but thriving, its residents living for and savoring every day. There is stuff for computer nerding, artistic consumption, and nature-bound relaxation within reach - I suggest you pay a visit if you have not. I live in the Mission district, and I work at Slide in the industrial-trendy SoMa (south of market) district.

Computers

My first computer was an Atari 1040STf: This machine taught me basic english (no I18N, no german docs) and Basic, the programming language. Since then I've grown intimate (and estranged) with Windows, Linux and OS X, in that order. I get back at them by telling them what to do: mostly in C, Java, Ruby, and Python. Although I love the science and challenge of hardware design (I have a degree in Computer Engineering from Georgia Tech) I've been seduced by the cheapness and quick cycles of software development. Professional work occupies about 95% of my mindspace at the moment, but I try to reserve a few hours on weekends to dabble in extracurricular mind-bending activities. Currently I am toying with PyChee, a Python framework.

Photography

I shoot with what I have on hand, which regrettably ends up being my iPhone more often than not. My Flickr account is probably the most comprehensive collection of photos I have taken, but I'd like to use this page as a platform for my favorites.
